For more than 20 years the XiiT-Foam® System has been successfully used in Spain for the construction of the new tunnels as well as renovation projects. More than 3 million square meters have been installed and the system boasts numerous references of use.
It is the only system that enables tunnels and underground structures to be waterproofed by attaching a final exposed sheet of XiiT onto the interior cladding of the structure.
Current solutions for water and frost protection in tunnels must be fire-protected with either shotconcrete (minimum 8 cm) or concrete elements. When using XiiT-Foam®, this is not required.
Significant environmental and cost savings by omitting fire protection of concrete, shotconcrete, and reinforcement. Savings amount to 100 cubic meters of shotconcrete (including pre-spraying) per approximately 1000 square meters of tunnel ceiling.
The XiiT-Foam® system system consists of three products. Depending on the final application, the structure of the layers can be modified in order to optimize.
Effective fireproofing is achieved through the use of special materials designed to limit the spread of flames.
The exposed outer layer provides mechanical resistance
The middle layer consists of closed-cell foam that provides the desired level of thermal
The inner layer provides mechanical resistance, drainage and weldable surface
Thanks to its ribbed aluminum finish in the part of the sheet in contact with the tunnel surface, it allows waterproofing located next to the rock.
The composition of XiiT-Foam® exposed sheet is also resistant to chemical agents present in water.
In sections of tunnels affected by extreme temperatures during winter, this property prevents trapped groundwater from freezing, provided sheets of adequate thickness (between 6 and 20 mm) are chosen.
Today's standards are 6 mm and 12mm.
Adequate fire protection is achieved thanks to a special composition intended to limit the spread of the flame.
